Bonds - Chapter 1616Bonds - Chapter 16
Charnen remained at Esin's tomb until time meant nothing anymore. Too many sunsets had come and gone since the world had shattered. The tombstone hadn't been erected immediately, but several days later people had come, shoved Charnen out of the way, and then carried the statue of the deceased king to the top of the mound in which Esin now lay. Now, Charnen's eyes found the granite statue, staring up through unkempt black hair at the stony face; it bore Esin's features, certainly. But the artist had lacked the skill necessary to bring life to those dark eyes, and the gray of granite seemed only to capture the awful

Another storm was brewing as the sun began to set. Thunder rumbled distantly, and Mikena scowled at the darkening sky. She was so close; the scent of her quarry seemed to be all around her. But if the storm arrived before she reached him, his scent would be washed away. Heightened senses had come with her contract, but she was by no means as attuned to nature as a Cayu demon. Quickening her pace, she leaped through the trees as nimbly as a Sprite demon, balancing herself to handle each branch, no matter how feeble. Just as the sun descended beyond view, and the first droplets of rain began to fall, Mikena caught th

A snapping twig a little ahead of him caused Sai to halt in his tracks, ears perking up as his senses picked up the scent. It was familiar. Tail twitching of its own accord in anticipation of those coming near, Sai began again to walk, quickening his pace. The rustling of thick wild grass to his left made him pause again, then a streak of white bolted forth, nearly colliding with him before it suddenly dropped at his feet, then straightened. Similis, Sai greeted calmly, as though his brother hadn't been about to knock him and Falcon backward into some wet, sticky brambles.

Bonds - Chapter 1313Bonds - Chapter 13
The sun stretched its brilliant fingers across the forest, touching every leaf, lighting on every rock, persistently trying to dry the world before another storm came in. To the west, clouds rolled away, though telltale signs of their presence remained. Several trees had fallen in the night. Spread before the tiny cave where Sai had taken shelter, Falcon wrapped tightly in his arms, were large branches and several enormous rocks which had slid down from atop the formation in the torrent. Carefully Sai rested Falcon on the ground and stepped out from the cave, squinting his eyes against the brightness of the morning

As he watched, Jenny stirred, murmuring words too quietly for him to hear. Then she suddenly bolted upright, honey-gold hair tumbling down her shoulders as she breathed quickly, dark eyes staring straight ahead at the wall. Death, she said after a moment. A strange sadness swept across her face and tears began to fall. No. Don't die. This certainly perked Rishay's interest and he briefly forgot his motives for coming he

The awful heat woke Death from a restive sleep. A red glow seeped beneath his closed eyelids. He struggled to open his eyes, and found his body unable to respond to his commands. As he tried to understand what was going on, the first thought which entered his mind was of Jenny. He remembered what had happened in the park, and how she had been used to crack the seal to the Deep. He remembered how very near to dying she had come. No, not dying. Ceasing to exist. Her body would have stopped, her mind would have broken, but her soul would have been lost to the abyss she had stumbled into. &nb

| Genre: Science Fantasy Rated: PG for action violence, intensity and brief graphic images. Brief Synopsis: When the demon Rishay escapes from Hell's lowest level, his only goal is to destroy Death--slowly, over time--for placing Rishay in Hell one century before. The council of Heaven sends Death to quickly recapture the demon and put him back where he belongs, but it seems Death almost wants to be punished. Desperate to resolve things, the council enlists the aid of a mortal woman who can see demonic auras, and Death's long-time rival, Life. Unfortunately this seems to be exactly what Rishay had in mind from the start. |

| I have been a writer since I was twelve, but I've been a storyteller all my life. Twenty-two moves through my youth gave me ample opportunities to see the world, experience people and cultivate a highly (sometimes overly) active imagination; thus, the fantasy genre called out to me, demanding my attention. Story ideas haunt me in the night. Characters demand birth. And I love every disturbing moment of it. |
